Oberseminar Mathematical Fluid Dynamics (Zoom)

In this talk, I will discuss the initial value problem of the Boltzmann equation. Formally, the Boltzmann equation can be viewed as an approximation of the compressible Navier-Stokes equation. The long-time behavior of both systems is expected to be similar to that of the heat equation. I will present classical results on the asymptotic behavior of the Boltzmann equation in two settings: the whole space and bounded domains. Key ideas and arguments will be mentioned.
