Roles in study and teaching
In each faculty of the University of Würzburg, there are several roles in the field of study and teaching that perform tasks in the context of quality management. Below you can find the description of tasks and competency of the Institute of Mathematics.

- Faculty
- ensures the curriculum that is required to comply with the examination and study regulations.
- Dean
- ensures the implementation of all obligations within a faculty (teaching / examinations).
- has the right to supervise and instruct members of the faculty.
- Faculty Board
- is responsible for all faculty matters for which the dean or other faculty body is not responsible.
- decides to set up, change or cancel courses of study in coordination with the study commissions.
- Dean of Studies
- suggests that the curriculum complies with the examination and study regulations, that the course can be completed properly within the standard period of study and that the students receive adequate supervision.
- is responsible for the evaluation of the teaching including student evaluations.
- reports to the dean on a regular basis and the Faculty Council and the university management at least once a semester about his or her work.
- annually reports to the faculty council in non-personal form a report on teaching (textbook).
- should comment on the pedagogical suitability of applicants in appointment procedures.
- is responsible for the selection of course, module and study subject evaluations (in coordination with course coordinators and study commissions).
- is responsible for reporting on course, module, and academic evaluations.
- reports on significant results of evaluations in Faculty Council meetings.
- conducts consultative discussions with colleagues and can arrange personal training.
- draws opinion of the subject in the study specialist audit or takes position on it.
- is responsible for the implementation of requirements resulting from evaluations / audits.
- Quality instruct
- is a member of the respective study commissions.
- is responsible for the organization of evaluations within the faculty on behalf of the Dean of Studies.
- checks the free text fields of evaluations.
- assists in the statistical evaluation and, if necessary, in the interpretation of the results of evaluations.
- maintains with the Service Center Evaluations for Studies and Teaching the incorporation of subject-specific questions in study evaluations.
- checks the proper formulation of the competence orientation of module contents.
- supports the preparation / processing of the information for the teaching report.
- Supports subjects responsible for preparing or updating study reports.
- has access to the reporting.
- Degree programme coordinator
- is the contact person for organizational aspects of a faculty (eg room management / examination management / event management / course catalog) and has access to the reporting system.
- supports the preparation / processing of the information for the teaching report.
- coordinates the change requests of the study programs and is responsible for their integration into the ZAP.
- represents the faculty at the round table.
- represents the faculty in uniqual QM projects.
- is switching point to other facilities of the university such. Ref. 1.1 PQM, ZiLS-SPO or Division 2.
- is a contact point for student questions that can not be answered by the course advisor.
- Examination committee
- Ensures that the performance reviews can be completed in the set time periods.
- works together with the individual module managers.
- gives suggestions for the reform of examination and study regulations.
- supports the Dean of Studies in the preparation of teaching reports.
- specifies exam types and dates.
- logs his sessions.
- Chairperson of the examination committee
- In cooperation with the deans of studies, it is important to note that the course offer complies with the study and examination regulations, that the course can be completed properly within the standard period of study and that the students receive adequate supervision.
- is responsible for the coordination and compilation of the individual study subject combinations with other subjects.
- ensures that the modules that can be selected for the respective study subject from other faculties are actually offered by them.
- documents the changes to the module descriptions every semester.
- is responsible for crediting.
- ensures the timely posting of module exam grades.
- Study Commission
- agrees with other study commissions and recommends assigning the responsibility of a faculty for degree courses in a subject.
- is responsible for planning, furnishing and ongoing adaptations of the courses of study of a general subject.
- draws up proposals for the establishment of a study program, i. Compilation of the modules with allocation of ECTS.
- formulates requirements regarding the design of modules and subjects.
- makes suggestions for determining module responsibility.
- makes proposals to adapt the curricula to current needs or developments and available resources.
- agrees with other study commissions wg. Teaching import / export and wg. Optimization of the teaching and learning units.
- prepares draft proposals for the faculty council regarding the redesign and changes of the PO, FSB, SFB, SVP etc.
- advises the dean of studies on the selection of modules for module evaluation.
- analyzes and discusses results of study evaluations.
- Provides information on analyzes, evaluation and catalog of measures as a report or draft resolution for the Faculty Council under the auspices of the Dean of Studies.
- advises on course-relevant questions in general.
- draws up an opinion on the study specialist audit.
- Subject area responsible
- is responsible for the overall organization and contents of the study programs of the subject.
- conducts study commission meetings and initiates and implements changes to study programs.
- works with the study commission to initiate and implement changes to degree programs.
- draws up draft concepts and concepts for the new study program and its structure.
- reports on essential results of evaluations to the Dean of Studies.
- prepares minutes for the discussion of results from module evaluations in cooperation with the Dean of Studies.
- analyzes results of study and module evaluations (with study commission).
- If necessary, draws up an opinion on subject-specific evaluations.
- discusses results with Dean of Studies and subject representation.
- Module coordinator
- is proposed by the subject responsible for the study via the study commission.
- coordinates the contents and the quality of the teaching offer of a module.
- organizes or coordinates the further module teachers regarding compliance with the examination regulations.
- is responsible for the description of content and competences in the modules in cooperation with the study commission.
